What to Do With Grease: Paying Attention on House Surfaces

Published on Tuesday, 15 December 2009

Grease builds-up in almost any of your essentials.  From your clothing to your home's surfaces, this is the worst type of stain to deal with. You need to focus your attention on what will be best not just to cover up the stain but on what to do to remove it from the spot.  House cleaning tips dictate that grease should be dealt with accordingly.

Since there are many spots affected by grease, the rules extend to how you should deal with each item properly.  The cleaning agents need not cost much to make sure that the results of the procedure are favourable.  Here are some good things you should bear in mind.

Grease on Your Furniture

Sometimes, you cannot avoid bringing food to your sofas or other furniture in your home.  With this, there is a great tendency that your furniture will get stained with grease.  If you have upholstered furniture, start the job by applying a small amount of talc, cornstarch or powder on the greased surface.  Once the grease is absorbed on the agent, you may scrub it out of the surface.  Afterwards, use a clean and damp cloth to wipe off the area.  Dry it off with soft cloth.

For your carpets, it is best to send the items out for washing.  Mix ammonia into a tub of water.  The proportion is 1:1.  For more stubborn grease residues, add some drops of your dishwashing liquid.  Make sure that you check if your carpet's colours may get affected by the process.  You can do this by checking the label.

Grease on Other Surfaces

Your kitchen floors and walls are definitely not exempted from grease.  Make sure that you work on these areas soon as the grease affects them. Clean the area with hot water.  If hot water is not enough to remove grease, place a few drops of dishwashing liquid directly on the sponge and use it to clean off the surfaces.  Finish it up with the aid of a mop for your floors or a damp cloth on your walls. Dry cloth wiping is also necessary.

These are a few ways to deal with grease on your home's vital surfaces.  If you want your properties to last long, it is best to involve yourself in such an endeavour.  On top of all things, getting rid of grease will maintain the beauty and splendour of your household items.
