Tips on Common Concrete Stain Removal
Published on Saturday, 31 October 2009
Most driveways and pathways are made of concrete. If you want to have a clean looking and a beautiful home, you have to be sure you know how to handle concrete stains. Oily stains are very common especially in driveways since cars are bound to drip oils. To remove them, begin by wetting the surrounding area of the stains. Then simply squirt some liquid soap directly on the stain and make a thick lather. Then scrub the stain off using a nylon brush. Once everything has been removed you can blot the excess water and soap off using an old towel. Alternatively, cat litter can also be used to absorb the excess water and soap too. Never use a wire brush in scrubbing the stain as water will make it rust. This will only result to another stain. Nevertheless, if you have rust stain you can easily remove it using oxalic acid. A pound of oxalic acid is usually mixed with a gallon of warm water. Simply immerse your nylon brush into the solution and rub the stain area. Just let it stay there for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it using lots of water. Just take note that oxalic acid is a very strong substance. You have to use a scrub with a long handle and you should wear gloves and safety goggles. And then you should also only use it when working on a well-ventilated area. By doing so, you will be able to remove the stains from the concrete successfully and more safely.
