Tips For Oriental Rug Cleaning

The best
tip for cleaning oriental rugs is to prevent getting them dirty in the first place. So outdoor shoes should be removed before entering the house; it is always better to walk barefoot on these rugs. Spills should be removed as soon as possible as the longer it lies on the oriental rug; the stronger will be the chemical reaction between the spill
and the carpet. Generally, it is better to clean your oriental rug only when
it needs cleaning. Sometimes a rug may have to be cleaned yearly, and in other cases, once in a few years. Never Use Strong Detergents Rug cleaning has to take place in a utility room or clean garage floor or on the paved walk on a fine sunny day. Both sides have to be vacuumed well first, and then the rug is shampooed using cold water and mild liquid soap. Never use strong detergents or ammonia water as they spoil the rug. It is better to check for colour running in a small portion of the rug before cleaning the entire rug. The next thing to do is to use a soft, long haired brush to brush the pile with linear motions in the nap direction. Avoid rubbing too vigorously and then wet the nap using soapy water. Check The Back Of The Rug The same soap solution has to be used to wash fringes using a laundry brush. This done, you have to rinse the oriental rug with running water. The next step is to squeeze out all the excess water using perhaps a rubber window squeegee. This has to be repeated throughout the length of the oriental rug, in the direction of the nap until there is no more water in the rug. Then the rug has to be laid flat to dry. If you feel the nap is dry, check the back of the rug and dry it if required. Once the oriental rug is dry, and you find its pile a bit stiff, soften it by brushing gently or lightly vacuum the rug.
