Quick Tips To Clean A Greasy Garage

Published on Monday, 07 December 2009

Even if you clean the garage floor spic and span by eliminating all the waste, it wouldn't look neat if you do not get rid of those greasy oil stains. Here are some quick tips to ease your work.

* If the stains are superficial, use of dishwashing cleaner will easily get rid of the stains.

* Getting rid of tough stains is a tedious job. Initially sprinkle cat litter, sawdust, baking soda or cornmeal over the stained area. Allow it to stand for a day and sweep off the dust. If you still see the stains, repeat the process.

* If you are not ready to wait for a day or so, use tough stain removers like trisodium phosphate (TSP), ammonia or hydrogen peroxide. However, remember that these agents are toxic; hence, use hand gloves and goggles to protect your eyes from the fumes.

*  Next, clean the entire garage floor with a tough cleaner. Scrub the stained areas and let the cleaner to dissolve all the dirt and leftover stains.

* Now flush the cleaner with water. Make sure to wash the cleaner thoroughly as any remains of the cleaner will make the floor slippery.

* If you have concrete flooring for your garage, use paint thinner or other degreasing agents available at automotive stores to eliminate the stains. Use of cat litter or other dusting agents suggested above will leave a gray mark on the floor. But it could be eliminated by scrubbing hardly whilst cleaning with a cleaner.

* As it is hard to get rid of oil stains, best suggestion is to take necessary measures to prevent the oil stains from happening. This can be achieved by covering the entire garage floor or at least the car parking area with car pads that absorb oil. Another solution is to coat the garage floor with some agent that does not allow stains to penetrate in to the flooring.

With these simple tips, be on your way to sparkle your garage. You can turn your garage into a play area for your kids on those snowy days.
