You should not wait for your drains to be clogged before you think about maintenance. Before you feel the need to call the plumber, it's best to learn how you can avoid clogging your drains. Most people either rent or buy a house without having any hand at its construction. The best thing you can do is do routine tasks to make sure you will have all drains working all the time. For instance, stoppers should be checked and cleaned if there is dirt buildup at least quarterly. If wear is observed it should be replaced too. You should also try flushing the drain out completely at least once a week. Just fill your tubs half full and then pull up the stopper. The volume and the weight of this amount of water would surely do the trick. To make sure the drainage system of the entire house is working, you can fill up all sinks and tubs. And then you can get everyone involved by synchronizing the release of all the water in all the sinks and tubs. This will again flush out all buildup occurring underneath. This exercise should be done at least once in every three months. On the other hand if you're drainage is connected to a sewage plant instead of a septic tank, using chlorine bleach instead of water may be appropriate. By doing the tips provided above, you will surely have fewer problems with your drainage. You will also be able to save money from plumber fees.
