Keeping Desk Office Clean

Published on Sunday, 22 November 2009

Your desk is perhaps the busiest part of your workplace.  Papers, staplers, pens and stamp pads are items that form part of your desk.  With all these items found on your counter, it is presumed that the area generates all the dirt.  Whilst you use them in order to facilitate your daily transactions, do not just leave them on your desk.

The technique is rather simple.  You must always focus on how to organise your desk.  Since you own that place, it is up to you to keep it tidy.  It is your responsibility to make sure that all items are in their proper places.  Organisation requires some things though.

Create a Filing System

If you are loaded with paperwork, there is no better way to deal with them than to create your own filing system.  This is encouraged especially if you cannot just store things inside your computer. Organise them in such a way that you will be able to reach out to files you will need later on.  Sort things out and keep them in folders or brown envelopes. After sorting, keep them inside your drawers.

When sorting your files, devise your own technique as long as your office permits you to do so. Don't forget that there might be some rules you need to follow when it comes to filing systems.  What matters is you know how to sort things through alphabetisation.
Get Rid of Unwanted Stuff

If you are an avid fan of photos kept inside photo frames, you must limit what is placed on top of your desk.  You should not clog your working area with these items.  They may sometimes serve the aesthetical purpose for you but not for others.  They tend to be unsightly.
Avoid placing food inside your counters.  Use your office lockers instead.  That way you will not have splatters anywhere within your work area.  This is more hygienic too.  Eat in designated areas.  Otherwise, your clients may notice you and report you to your boss.

One Last Tip

Always make sure that your desk is organised not only before you leave the office at the end of the day.  Practise cleaning the area once you need to have your coffee or lunch breaks.  Have your own working cloth.  Put a few drops of alcohol or plain water on the cloth before you wipe your desks.  Replace the cloth you use as often as possible.
