If you do not have an absorbent cloth nearby, simply use a thick and soft pair of socks and fill them with salt. Close the sock opening and use that to absorb the fluid off the sofa. Blotting stains Once the excess fluid has been removed, the next step is to blot out the stain. Use a blotting paper for this and do not rub the stain on the sofa. Use lukewarm water to blot the stain further and then finally dry the surface using a dry and clean towel. Oil stains Oil stains are another common cause of stains on leather sofas. You need to use a tissue to blot away all the excess oil from the sofa. Never use damp or wet cloths for grease or oil stains as this can worsen the condition further.
