How to Effectively Clean Your Attic

Published on Saturday, 01 August 2009

We understand that the thought of cleaning your attic is such a heavy burden to you. Due to the many stuff that you have been stacking there throughout the years, the attic is one of the most difficult parts of the house to clean.  So we have these simple tips to accomplish this heavy chore.    Step 1. Before you start cleaning, prepare the things that you will be needing. You may need a chevy chase mask, vacuum, torch, gloves, rubbish bags, and of course, brush.   Step 2. Next, decide on the stuff that you want to discard, especially those that you think will not be useful to you anymore. It's time to get rid of them. You may want to give it to people who need it or you may just throw them away. If you also have time and interest to recycle some of the old stuff, look for stuff that are still recyclable and set them at one corner for a while. You may want to decorate your house with these recycled materials.   Step 3. Then group together the things that belong in the same category such as toys. Collect all of them and keep them in a box container. Label the box so that it would be easy to find them in case you will need them in the future. Group together old photos or memories of your child as a baby or yours during your wedding. It would be best to use boxes or containers that are weather-proof or can protect your stuff from water, just in case there would be leaks from the roof.    Step 4. After keeping things in their respective boxes, it is now time to sweep all over the attic.  Be patient if you encounter rats and insects and worst their waste which smells all over the place. Clean them thoroughly. Make sure to eliminate the odor because it entices other rats to come to the place. Find out where these little creatures enter and make sure to close it.  You may put rat traps or rat poisons.   After the thorough sweeping, finally you are done. It is another accomplishment for the day.
