Roof cleaning may be neglected until algae stains start to cover your roof. But this should not be the case. Roof cleaning should be attended to regularly too to avoid damaging the roof and to avoid repair expenses.
If it is your first time to hire a roof cleaning contractor, you can ask for recommendations from family and friends. Alternatively, you can make a list of local cleaners and check them out through the BBB. BBB accredited companies usually have a reputation for good customer service. Since you will be paying them to do the service, you should at least make sure that they will perform it well.
Unless you have thick moss on your roof, you should make sure that the roof cleaners would only apply a bleach or chlorine solution without applying pressure and they should only apply gentle pressure when rinsing the solution off. It is also important to know if the roof cleaning contractor will clean the whole roof. It is not enough to clean only the visible stains. If there are stains in one spot, stain are surely forming in the rest of the roof.
Professional roof cleaners generally should work in teams of two. While one would focus on cleaning the roof, the other would make sure that the ground is cleaned as dirt falls from the roof. The person on the ground would also assist the person cleaning the roof.
And lastly you should make sure that the roof cleaners offer liability coverage. Should they damage your roof while rendering service, they will be liable for the damages. This way you are insured from any losses. And if you choose the right company, you will also have cleaner roof after they are done cleaning your roof.
