Getting Rid of Tough Stains
Published on Friday, 04 September 2009
Anybody who has a carpet and got stains on it can attest to how much of a nightmare cleanup can be. Different stains need different treatments and you should know how to treat each.
Ice is the primary need when dealing with wax stains - simply slick it on the wax to harden it, then scrape it off with the dull edge of a knife. You can also iron on a wax stain to wax paper or paper towels - simply iron the other side of the fabric with the wax paper or paper towel on the wax itself.
Blood is removed by soaking the fabric in cold water - warm and hot water will only make things worse - then spraying it with ammonia and then letting it sit for about twenty to thirty minutes. You can then apply hydrogen peroxide or a stain remover and let it sit again for a couple of hours. Rinse with an enzyme detergent.
Wine is another nasty stain that can be removed using club soda, or a stain remover. Remember to soak it in cold water, and then wash according to the instructions for that particular fabric.
Always remember to look at the instructions regarding your fabric before you apply anything, as there are certain fabrics out there that will not sit well with certain chemicals.
