Everything About Disinfectants Used By Cleaning Companies

Published on Friday, 17 July 2009

Cleaning companies use disinfectants as a regular part of their cleaning schedule. This is done to minimise presence of germs, prevent resurfacing of germs as well as ensure a more hygienic environment. There are different kinds of disinfectants used by cleaning companies. Here is a list of some popular ones used.   Quaternary disinfectants   These disinfectants come with positive charges present inside. Most viruses, bacteria as well as fungi varieties have negative charges in them. Using quaternary disinfectants helps to neutralise the negative charges on these bacteria and fungi to bring it to a positive charge state. This removal of negative charges on the germs kills them eventually. The short form of quaternary disinfectants is called quats and these are typically used for lower levels of sanitary requirements. These solutions and cleaning products do not leave stains, have no odour and do not cause any sort of corrosion on metals. If you use these solutions in their diluted form, they will not cause toxicity to the body.   Phenolic disinfectants   Most of the conventional household cleaning solutions have phenol or phenolic substances in them. One of the most ancient forms of disinfectants, phenol is actually carbolic acid. Phenol causes corrosions on the skin and hence usage of cleaning materials containing this substance should have non-corrosive formulae. Phenolic cleaning solutions have proven their efficiency in cleaning as well as sanitising all kinds of surfaces. Phenolic cleaners easily eliminate most bacterial strains such as ones causing tuberculosis. These cleaning substances can be a little expensive and in some cases, there is a reaction with plastic surfaces.   Things to consider   Irrespective of which kind of disinfectant you are using, make sure of the following: - Concentration - Time of contact - pH levels of the solution - Temperature   These four factors are crucial to ensuring proper cleaning by your cleaning company and safety standards.
