Area Rugs enhance the beauty of any interior designing theme. To keep up the majesty of area rugs, they have to be well maintained. Here are some simple ideas that can help you in cleaning area rugs.
* Clean the rug regularly either by vacuuming or sweeping with a broom to get rid of loose dirt. Beating is the best method to get rid of dust from area rugs. But be careful to not spoil the base of the rug.
* Use mild cleaners free of bleach on area rugs to prevent them from becoming dull after repeated washing. They have to be used in appropriate proportions. Most of them consider using more than the suggested proportion to get rid of stains very easily. It will damage the rug texture and colour. Pre-test the cleaners over a small area initially before using them.
* If anything spills on the rug or your pet has used it wring out the liquid portion immediately with paper towels or dry cloth.
* A solution of white vinegar works well for fruit juices and berry stains. To get rid of the tough stains of red wine, a solution of liquid detergent and hydrogen peroxide can be used.
* It is a must for the pet owners to keep a solution of ammonia handy. Ammonia eliminates the urine stains completely. Baking powder can be used to get rid of urine odour.
* To most of the stains, either cold water or lukewarm water will work. Once the stain is removed, place a bundle of paper towels with weight placed over them to eliminate water completely.
* Dry the rug thoroughly before replacing it. Vacuuming after drying will give back the original texture.
* Never allow the rug to remain in bright sun for long hours.
* Pet hair that is stuck to the rug can be easily removed by use of lint remover or anti-lint brush.
* Get the rug cleaned by professionals once in every three years or as needed to rejuvenate their splendour look.
