Effective Ways to Care for Down Comforters and Covers

Published on Thursday, 21 January 2010

A down comforter is one of the largest visible parts of a bed that is why you have to keep it in top condition so it will go nicely with other bedroom accessories.

One of the best ways to protect the comforter is to use a down cover.  Your down comforter can be protected from stains and dirt if it is properly covered.  Nevertheless, you still need to bring your down comforter to professional cleaning services once every three years to maintain its good condition.

Maintenance of down covers is relatively easy.  You can wash these covers regularly to keep them clean and fresh. Most down covers have standard button enclosures so you can easily remove them from the comforter.

It is best to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer when washing down covers. You have to closely follow the required detergent and washing temperature in order to avoid damaging the covers.  Down covers can be air dried or sun dried.

The down comforter however requires different and more complicated laundering procedures.  Again, it would be best to take your comforter to professional cleaners so that it can receive proper care and attention.  This way, the comforter will be protected from damages.
