Effective Home Cleaning

Published on Wednesday, 02 December 2009

Effective home cleaning can be an irritating and bothersome work in many households. Employing maids can also be risky in these days of economic downturn. Further, the emphasis is now on green living and environmental safety. It is easily possible to have a clean home and a green home at present with the arrival of several natural household cleaning materials. These non-toxic cleaners ensure the safety of home and promises green living.

Majority of the cleaning products contain harmful dyes, solvents and irritants. The normal household bleaching powder is definitely a corrosive irritant. Some of the multi-purpose cleaners contain chemicals that are believed to act on our central nervous systems. A few air fresheners had been found to lead to shortness of breath. Even normal persons could be affected by such chemicals. Those having health problems or allergy can be seriously affected.

Natural household cleaning products also contain chemicals but these are harmless to humans and the environment. Some of the natural cleaning products are vinegar, sodium bicarbonate or baking soda, washing soda, borax, soapnuts and salt. They are easily available in ordinary shops and pharmacies. You can use an aromatherapy air freshener as an alternative to sprays. It is even possible to prepare our own natural homemade detergent. Such detergent can be mixed with vinegar for cleaning greasy surfaces and utensils. Steam cleaning is another green and healthy method in effective home cleaning.

Natural wood floor cleaners can be used to clean wooden floors. Preparing a non-toxic over cleaner is also not a difficult process, since majority of standard oven cleaners available in the market contain harmful chemicals. Borax is one of the most wonderful cleaning products but its storage should be done in proper fashion. If young children eat even a small quantity of borax, it can prove fatal. Wearing gloves when using borax solution will be ideal.
