De-cluttering a Child's Bedroom: How to Do Things without Hurting Yourself

Published on Sunday, 20 December 2009

Sometimes, it is very difficult to tread softly across your kid's bedroom even if all you want is to have a goodnight kiss.  You will never know if some pieces of toys are left scattered on the floor.  It may be a regular activity for you to drag your way through the carpet so that you don't fall about the place and hurt yourself. If you face these situations quite often, then you really need to think about de-cluttering your child's bedroom.

This endeavour might look like a frightening task, but it's not.  If you want to make sure that your kids will not get hurt the next time they walk around their own bedrooms, now is the time for you to get ready with the task.  Cleaning your child's bedroom will boil down for every house member's protection.

Steps in Cleaning a Child's Room

There are three steps to go through when it comes to cleaning your child's room. Below are explanations of steps in the procedure.

* Organise your child's clothes.  The first thing that has to be sorted out is your child's clothes. You may categorise them into three stacks:  clothes that no longer fit; clothes from last season; and clothes for the current time. One by one, determine which clothing must go in to which stack. Accordingly, check if some pieces need washing.

* Toys have to be sorted out as well.  Toys are the next things that clutter around your child's rooms.  The list may actually include coloured pens, pencils, markers, crayons, erasers, paints and putty.  These items can leave unwanted stains on the floor. Bring them all together in the middle of the room before sorting them out. Group toys accordingly and label the shelves. If you do not have enough shelves on the cabinet, improvise other techniques.  Use boxes or plastic trays whenever possible.

* Take some help from a professional agency.  After you sort out these things, experts may help you whilst cleaning furniture, floor and upholstery in your child's room. This step is important if you want all clutter to be dealt with properly.

If you want, you may also talk to your children about keeping their rooms clean.  Instruct them to keep toys properly once they are through with playing.  Whilst you clean their rooms, ask them to be around you and help you with the entire process.
