Damp Wiping Techniques For Sofa Cleaning

Published on Monday, 16 November 2009

Your sofa is undoubtedly your prized possession in the family room. It is where guests come and sit, the family gets together and kids play. This is why cleaning the sofa is essential because it accumulates so much grime on a regular basis. Damp wiping is the best cleaning technique for your sofa.   Do not rub   Most people will have you believe that rubbing a stain on the sofa with a damp cloth will get rid of it. Nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is that the more you rub the sofa surface, the more the stain will spread. Hence, whenever there is a stain, you need to use a blotting paper to remove excess of the stain. If it is a fluid, a blotting paper works wonderfully. If it is an oil stain, use a dry and clean absorbent tissue to remove extra oil. Then, use a damp cloth to rub on the stain surface.   How to damp wash   Damp washing your sofa involves making use of the right supplies and equipment. You need to have a soap water solution comprising a bit of lukewarm water, a soft and absorbent cloth, a brush and a dry clean soft cloth. Start by vacuuming your sofa thoroughly. Use the vacuum cleaner to remove all dirt traces from the sofa crevices. Then, use the stain removal methods outlined above to remove any accumulated stains. Next, start using the absorbent cloth to dip into the soap solution. Dip it into the solution and then make sure to remove all excess water. The cloth should be damp and not wet. Use the damp cloth to rub all over the sofa surface and immediately follow up damp areas with a dry cloth. Using the dry cloth will prevent water stains from developing on the sofa surface.
