Common Areas Most Maid Services Forget to Clean
Published on Friday, 03 August 2012
When you hire a professional maid service for cleaning your home it's normal to expect a spotless place after the service is finished - paying for a cleaning should mean that the place will be immaculate. People who hire cleaning service want the maid to help them maintain the household clean and sparing a part of their income shows that they want good service. However, it sometimes happens that even the best cleaning service could neglect a certain place in a client's home. Some maids might forget a place once, but there are others who forget the same places on a regular basis. Here is a list of the most common places which cleaning services often forget.
Baseboards
Generally maid services do the following things: they vacuum floors, mop floors, sweep and clean dust. You might think that cleaning the baseboards is included in this main service, but this is not always the case. They are often overlooked or simply ignored. When you come home to a freshly cleaned place, it's really annoying to see the baseboards all covered in dust among the overall cleanliness.
Ceiling Corners
This is another overlooked place, even though it's right in front of you. A common problem is dusty cobwebs which take over the entire ceiling corner. However, maids often don't even look up, and even if they do, they can choose to ignore this part of the room. One of the reasons is that it simply requires more time and effort. One can clean a ceiling corner by using a duster which has a longer handle or by using a chair. Both actions require some additional time which many maids prefer not to spend. In order to prevent cobwebs the corner should be regularly cleaned.
Ceiling Fans
Another problematic place in a room is a ceiling fan, which are often forgotten by the maids. In order to prevent dust from flying around when you switch it on, the fan should be cleaned regularly. Moreover, in the colder seasons you won't be even using one, so it would gather lots of dust.
Doorknobs
These are one of the dirtiest places in every home, surprisingly or not - they get touched a lot and it's important to clean them often by using an anti-bacterial wipe or an ordinary household cleaner.
Under and Behind Appliances
Maids might clean around appliances such as toasters and refrigerators, but they often don't bother cleaning behind or under them. In order to get a professional cleaning, the major appliances (refrigerator, oven, washing machine) need to be moved and this should be done several times a year. Minor appliances (coffee machines, microwaves) should be moved and cleaned under and behind at least once every cleaning season.
Behind Toilets
Cleaning services rarely overlook toilets, but some of them tend to forget to clean behind them.
Under Cushions
Maid services cope well with tidying couches and chairs, but they often neglect cleaning under the cushions themselves. This area should be cleaned by using the hose attachment of the vacuum-cleaner. The process is nothing different than vacuuming carpets and rugs.
Under chair legs
This is an issue in almost any house and is often overlooked by cleaning services. The bottom side of a chair's legs accumulates all kinds of rubbish and should be cleaned while vacuuming the room. It requires a bit of effort to turn the chair upside down or tilt/lift it, but it's better than leaving all the dust there.
