Cleaning the Fireplace the Simplest Ways

Published on Sunday, 16 August 2009

If creosote and soot get accumulated in the fireplace it can cause a major accident like chimney fires. Though cleaning your fireplace doesn't sound interesting, it can be very fulfilling. It will not only keep your house safe but it will give you peace of mind as well.

When cleaning your fireplace, remember to take away large debris. This way, your vacuum cleaner will not have a hard time cleaning the fireplace if all huge debris is removed. Then, place all the debris collected in a trash can and disposed it off.

When removing soot, use a shop vacuum since it doesn't clog easily. And if your fireplace is close to any carpeted floors, make sure that you lay any tarp, newspaper or wood on it to avoid your carpet from getting damaged.

As you clean your fireplace prepare cleaning materials such as water, bleach, scrub soot, and pails. Scrub hard to completely remove the soot. And when you're done, don't forget to throw the waste you gathered and the newspaper you used in covering your carpet. If your fireplace has glass doors, use glass cleaner and newspapers in cleaning them. This will gradually polish the glass door and at the same time the exterior metal of the door.
