Carpet Cleaning - Odor Control Management

Published on Wednesday, 15 July 2009

Odors are one of the most difficult things to deal with. In a carpet cleaning business, odor control management is extremely essential in keeping customers happy. Whilst it is important to focus on removing stains, it is also vital to eliminate stink and stench from your carpets.   Four Cardinal Rules   There are four principal rules to odor control:   1. Remove the source of odor.   It is imperative to eradicate the physical source of bad odor. For carpets, this means elimination of charred wood, contaminated carpet pad, burned spots, or even dead animal. Once the cause is exterminated, the foul smell goes with it as well.   2. Carefully clean the part where the odor rests.   This step means using materials to "physically" get rid of the smell.   3. Use a counteractant.   There are several materials used to counter the stench from your carpets. The list includes flooding, fogging, injecting and spraying of odor-control substances on the area affected.   4. Seal the source.   If it's impossible to use a deodoriser, the most appropriate thing to do would be keeping the odor in. Plastics and other special materials may be utilised to follow this step.   How To Deodorise   There are tons of ways to deodorise carpets. Simple measures like smoking outside the house are a good way to get rid of stinky smell. The source of odor infiltration must be avoided so the bad smell from the carpet may also be removed. Here is a detailed way of how you can eradicate different types of odors from your carpet:   * Smoke - Baking Soda is a great way to remove carpet odor. Work around your carpet by treating it with this material. Get the soda into the carpet fibers by brushing it with a corn straw broom. Leave it overnight and do deep vacuuming the day after. * Pet Urine - Like smoke, the smell of pet urine can be removed with baking powder. - Shampoo with steam cleaner can also be an option for cleaning a pet-stained carpet. - Cleaning solutions are widely available in the market today. Make sure to use the ones which are safe for your carpets.   Once the job is done, you'd be truly refreshed to the smell of your deodorised carpets!
