Basic Tips on Gutter Cleaning
Published on Saturday, 27 March 2010
Cleaning gutters is never a job that people look forward to. But if not done regularly it would even be harder to clean the gutters. But while your main concern is to get the gutters cleaned, you should not forget to do it safely as well. So before you start
the actual cleaning process, make sure that you have proper tools and equipment. First, you need to have a sturdy ladder that has proper height. It would even be better if you have extendible ladder. Then you need a pair of safety glasses. You also need a pair of workman's gloves. Not only will these protect your hands but also allow you to work more efficiently because it allows you to have a better grip. When you are up the ladder you can also use a harness for more protection. To be safe never reach too far than the sides of the ladder. Always put the ladder near the downspout first so it can be your starting point. Start from the low end of the downspout then move towards the high end. Use a garden trowel or a gutter scraper tool to get rid of the dirt. If the dirt is too hard, you can spray it with water to soften it. Then scraping would surely be easier. You just have to scrape the majority of the dirt and hose the remaining dirt off. While doing so you can let the dirt fall to the ground or you can also bring a garbage bag and collect the dirt
there. Again cleaning this part of the house should be done regularly so you won't have a hard time removing the dirt. It's also healthier to do so.
